Alice in Lockdown

First piece: Alice in Lockdown: Alice trapped in the new reality, in this piece I combine pop culture symbols and pastel colours to express the feeling of fake comfort in our houses while we are being hyper controlled.

The idea started at the beginning of the lockdown when some art contests where happening working with the concept of self-isolation and staying at home. I imagined myself trapped in my house forever and I envisioned Alice when she grew really big and got trapped in the Wonderland house.

My social commentaries about how corona virus was being handed in England weren’t very welcome on Facebook so I thought I would put this social commentaries in pictures. The result was even better than expected, people who would normally criticise conspiracy theories were very impressed with the artwork even if when looking close you can find symbols of conspiracy theories.

To work on these pieces I stick to my habitual colour palettes. I combine Procreate for line work with Photoshop for colour as it gives me much more possibilities with gradients.

Second piece: Down the Rabbit Hole: Alice going through the rabbit hole of our digital world, a hyperreal maze of content that tell us what to believe, what to do, what to buy, and how to entertain ourselves, does that rabbit hole ever reach an end?

With this piece I want people to question themselves about their everyday interaction with the digital media and how it influence the way the think or act. I want to talk to everyone but I am sure it will resonate with my generation the most.

For this piece I worked with lots of sketches and as before with some reference photographies. The perspective and the complexity of the digital boxes through the rabbit hole forced me to plan everything ahead in detail before starting to draw.

Xaman X Animation Process. Assets creation

First I wanted to set up the basics of the band treated as a brand.

Brand identity questions

1. Personality of the band: Psychedelic, natural, organic, mixed culture, tropical, exotic, dreamy.
2. Customers: Festival goers, hippies, latin music lovers, party lovers, cumbia lovers
3. Type of music: Moombaton, cumbia, electro tropical, down tempo.
4. Competitors: Bomba estereo, el gincho, populous, systema solar, Romperayo, la yegros, Ondatropica, Sotomayor
5. How does the music make you feel? Uplifted, grounded, dancy, happy, fun, sexy.
6. How are we different: We jam organically, we are from Uk, each member is from a different country, we set up the music as a trascendent ritual.
7. What is your story: Aliens from planet Puya come down to Earth to make shamanic rituals for the millenial culture to help them find enlightment.
8. 5 describing words: Psychedelic, fun, latin, looping, colorful.
9. What is wrong with your brand at the moment: we have none
10. How will your test your brand perception? Through social media engagement, through questionnaire? through friends oppinions.
11. How will the logo communicate the brand? Original, Timeless, Adaptable, Memorable, Relevance, Colors
12. How will we interact with the audience? Social media Plan to be done.

Our main problem is the lockdown and the lack of gigs. We need to define the content to put out there based in one platform only: Facebook.

I wanted to create assets that can transform, flow, be animated, so I keep in mind simple shapes and a defined colour palette.

Also thinking about the lockdown we came up with the idea of letting the public create the content in exchange of a free download of our Ep. Wee would ask people in their houses to record 30 seconds or less performing our song Café and Bananas. ( IN PROCESS) (2nd video)

Coming back to the animation video:

Song title: Hoy (today)

Duration: 6 minutes ( the duration was a challenging aspect of the song so I understood I should focus on making animation loops that i could reuse through the video)

Technique: combination of frame to frame animation with after effects

Deadline: 3 months

Script idea: From a faraway galaxy come down to an strange planet a group of 4 aliens (the xaman x) in an space ship. In the planet there are some totem animals making a bonfire close to the beach. The plants and animals dance happily to the music.

From the water comes a gigantic woman followed by an army of hearts that are swimming to the shore. The woman is singing and the more she sings more the animals and plants in the island dance.

The head of the woman opens and from it comes out sparks of light that land inside the bodies of every creature of the planet.

The creatures keep on dancing , playing music and cheering more and more.

All the creatures start to levitate because of the spark of energy that got inside of them

Everything is levitating in circles around the head of the gigantic woman from the water in a visual and musical catharsis.

The woman head opens and everything is swallowed by her, who finally get calm and come back into the deepest waters with her army of hearts.

The video ends up again in a galaxy view.
