Developing a graphic novel II

Process II

So I had everything ready to start my comic. I did a first veery rough sketch of what would be the main points of graphic focus and after that, keeping in mind filling 16 pages and creating a suited lecture rhythm, I developed the storyboard and the structure of the vignetes for the female part.

I was still a bit lost about how I would develop the male part and the colour styles so I thought best would be to create the whole female part before taking any further step.

I started by doing the storyboard and adding the text in each of the panels, so I could be sure that all the internal monologue would fit in 16 vignettes keeping a good rhythm.

To fit into a realistic drawing style and to make the composing process faster I then made photos simulating the movement of all the vignettes.

To develop them I opted for using the technique of rotoscoping the line work on each panel and retouch it to give it a handmade feel. Ref https://www.comicsbeat.com/through-a-rotoscoping-graphic-novel-darkly/
